Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 43% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
The Monitor Blend is a wheated Straight Bourbon from Virginia. Its mash consists of 55% corn, 35% wheat and 10% malted barley from Virginia. Ironclad distils the mash in a copper pot still. The whiskey then matures for more than two years in new, charred 30-gallon oak barrels. The 0.7-litre bottling is bottled at 43%, is non-chill filtered and contains no added colouring.
Its aromatic profile combines maple and caramelised sugar with fresh oak and rose hip. Cantaloupe and honeydew melon, molasses and white sugar complement its sweet, fruity character, while spice defines the finish.
Tasting Notes:
Distillery/Bottler:
Ironclad Distillery Co. distils The Monitor Blend in Newport News and bottles the bourbon itself. The name Ironclad recalls the 1862 battle between armoured ships off Newport News. The distillery stands beside the James River within sight of the historic site and operates in a warehouse built in 1913. There, the family business focuses on bourbon made from grain grown in Virginia.
