Special Features:

Jim Beam White Label develops its character over four years of maturation in new American white oak barrels charred on the inside. The barrels receive a level 4 char: the deeply cracked inner surface resembles alligator skin, giving this treatment its name, Alligator Char. During maturation, the changing seasons influence the interaction between whiskey and wood. This produces the golden-brown colour and the combination of sweet and oak-led notes.

The grain mixture consists of corn, rye and malted barley. In the finished bourbon, vanilla and caramel sit alongside oak, cereal notes and restrained spice. At 40% alcohol, this official bottling is suitable for drinking neat or in an Old Fashioned or a Highball. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and is offered without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, oak and vanilla combine with a spicy background note.
  • Palate: On the palate, the bourbon is medium-bodied and mild, with gentle caramel and vanilla notes.
  • Finish: Toasted oak lingers on the finish with a little sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Beam family's history as bourbon makers dates back to 1795, when Jacob Beam sold his first whiskey under the name Old Jake Beam Sour Mash. After Prohibition ended, James Beauregard Beam rebuilt the distillery in Clermont, Kentucky, with help from family and friends. The Jim Beam brand took its name from him.

Jim Beam uses the sour mash process: some of the residue from the previous distillation is added to the fresh mash to help maintain consistent conditions. Fermentation uses a yeast strain that the company has employed since the end of Prohibition. The first distillation is followed by a second in a doubler, a still similar to a pot still. The whiskey then matures in well-ventilated warehouses.
