Old Grand Dad 80 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky - Liter

Volume: 1 litre | Alcohol content: 40% | Chill filtration: Yes | Colouring: No

Special Features:

Old Grand-Dad Classic 80 Proof is the four-year-old expression in this historic Kentucky bourbon range. Its recipe draws on traditional rye-forward mash bills and deliberately uses more rye, which gives the pleasantly light style a distinctive spiciness. Within the range, this Classic expression sits alongside the 100 Proof Bottled-in-Bond and the 114 Proof bourbon.

The bourbon is bottled at 80 proof, or 40%. The bottle contains 1 litre; the whiskey is chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

The interplay of gentle sweetness and rye spice makes this expression suitable both for drinking neat and for classic bourbon cocktails. Despite its moderate alcoholic strength, its historic high-rye character remains clearly recognisable.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla and caramel open the nose. Cinnamon, a delicate citrus note, subtle spices and light oak provide restrained accents in the background.
• Palate: On the palate, a creamy, smooth texture carries sweet caramel, toffee and candy floss. Spices and oak provide definition, while a delicate waxy impression rounds out the texture.
• Finish: The medium-length finish fades with oak and a light, lingering spiciness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Old Grand-Dad was first bottled in 1882. The name honours farmer and distiller Basil Hayden Sr.; his grandson, Colonel R. B. Hayden, named the distillery and the bourbon after his grandfather. His portrait still appears on the label today.

Basil Hayden Sr. used surplus grain from his fields to make whiskey. Today’s rye-forward style continues this early approach. James B. Beam Distilling Co. acquired the brand in 1987 and is responsible for the present-day original bottling in Kentucky.
