Special Features:

This American single malt combines Scottish inspiration with a regional smoking wood from New Mexico: 30% of the malted barley is smoked over mesquite. Also used for barbecuing, this wood gives the whisky an aromatic, earthy counterpoint to its fruitiness and sweetness.

After five years of maturation, the whisky was bottled as Batch 1 for the USA Series from That Boutique-y Whisky Company. The release comprises 284 bottles at a natural cask strength of 65.7%. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. The label, designed by Emily Chappell, belongs to a series depicting distillers and founders as characters on nostalgic baseball cards.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet stewed apples mingle with baking spices and caramel. The apple note also has a slight suggestion of fermented fruit.
• Palate: Bold pepper leads on the palate before apples and toffee emerge. Woody spice, ginger and cardamom add further detail, while liquorice remains a subtle nuance.
• Finish: The finish is peppery and increasingly dry. A subtle, fragrant touch of wood smoke lingers alongside.

Santa Fe Spirits produces its spirits in New Mexico at just under 2,200 metres above sea level. The altitude and pronounced temperature fluctuations shape the conditions for cask maturation: changes in temperature influence the exchange between whisky and wood. Mesquite smoke also anchors the flavour of the distillery’s malt whiskies in the American Southwest.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company is the independent bottler behind this edition. Single casks and limited small batches had shaped its range for more than ten years before a permanently available core range was introduced in 2023. Its themed series continue this approach; the USA Series brings together different American whiskey styles and their producers.
