The 2024 release of Shenk's Homestead is a Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey with a high rye content, malted rye and Caramel Malt. For this edition, Michter's also used whiskey matured in French oak from the Vosges. The wood was air-dried for 24 months before being made into casks, then toasted to Michter's specifications. The batch comprises 1,990 bottles, and the whiskey is bottled at 45.6%.

The whiskey is full-bodied. Malted rye and Caramel Malt contribute to its creamy texture and complement its rye-led, herbal and spicy character. Crème brûlée, fruit and nougat add sweet accents.

Distillery/Bottler:

Shenk's Homestead commemorates John Shenk, a Swiss Mennonite who founded a distillery in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania, in 1753. There, he made whiskey from locally grown rye. The distillery later became known as Bomberger's and, in the 20th century, Michter's. Following its bankruptcy in 1989, Joseph J. Magliocco and Richard “Dick” Newman revived the brand in the 1990s and shifted its focus to Kentucky.

Today, Shenk's Homestead and Bomberger's Declaration form the Michter's Legacy Series. The releases change each year, drawing on this history through different choices of grain and cask. The Kentucky whiskey is made using the traditional sour mash process, in which a portion of the spent mash from a previous distillation is added to the next batch.
