Special Features:

The 2025 edition is a full-bodied Kentucky sour mash whiskey from the Michter's Legacy Series with a pronounced rye content. In the traditional sour mash process, a portion of the mash from the previous distillation, known as setback, is added to the next batch.

A proportion of the fully matured whiskey was finished in toasted, uncharred French oak barrels. The wood came from the Vosges and had previously been naturally air-dried and seasoned for 24 months. The finish accentuates the rye spice and combines it with dried fruit, burnt sugar and toffee.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals burnt sugar, spices and honey.
• Palate: The whiskey is full-bodied and sweet on the palate, with toasted notes accompanied by baking spices, dried fruit, toffee, nougat and more burnt sugar.
• Finish: The finish is smooth, with lingering spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Shenk's Homestead commemorates John Shenk, who founded a distillery in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania, in 1753. It became known as Bomberger's in the 19th century and was renamed Michter's in the mid-20th century. Shenk's Homestead is now part of the Michter's Legacy Series.

Joseph J. Magliocco and Richard “Dick” Newman revived Michter's in Kentucky during the 1990s. The company now has a distillery in Louisville's Shively district, the historic Fort Nelson Building in Louisville and agricultural land in Springfield.
