Courage & Conviction Cuvée Cask matures for at least four years in first-fill Cuvée red wine casks from Europe. Before filling, the interiors are shaved, toasted and charred again. STR stands for Shave, Toast, Re-char and refers to these three consecutive steps.

This American single malt is made entirely from malted barley. It is bottled at 46% in 0.7-litre bottles; the whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals plum, dark raspberry, chocolate cake and clove.
• Palate: On the palate, tart cherry, blood orange, cocoa and burnt sugar come together.
• Finish: Candied walnuts and ginger follow on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Virginia Distillery Company is located in Lovingston in the Blue Ridge Mountains of central Virginia, where every production stage from milling to bottling takes place. The distillery mills its malted barley using a Boby mill from the 1920s and distils in two handcrafted Scottish copper pot stills. The whisky then matures in the on-site warehouses before being bottled there. For Cuvée Cask, this in-house production is followed by maturation for at least four years in STR-treated European red wine casks.
