Special Features:

Wild Turkey 101 matures for six to eight years in new American white oak barrels. Their particularly heavy alligator char shapes its colour and robust barrel character. A higher proportion of rye in the grain mix and bottling at 101 proof, equivalent to 50.5% ABV, contribute to its spicy character. The bottle contains 1 litre.

Vanilla and caramel meet oak and baking spices. Cinnamon stands out on the nose, while a light hint of smoke on the palate and orange peel on the spicy finish add further accents.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla, cinnamon and oak come together on the nose.
• Palate: Vanilla and caramel appear first on the palate, followed by oak and baking spices; toffee and a light hint of smoke round out the flavour.
• Finish: The finish brings pronounced spice and orange peel.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Ripy brothers opened a distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, in 1869. The Wild Turkey name emerged in 1940. Jimmy Russell joined the distillery in 1954; his son Eddie followed in 1981 and also became Master Distiller in 2015. Wild Turkey has belonged to the Campari Group since 2009.

The distillery uses its own yeast culture and fills new American white oak barrels with its bourbon at a comparatively low strength. This means less water needs to be added after maturation, before bottling. Its barrels receive a heavy No. 4 alligator char.
