With this rye, Woodford Reserve draws on a grain recipe in the style of the era before American Prohibition. Rye accounts for 53% of the grains. Spice and tobacco shape its character, balanced by fruity, floral and sweet impressions. The whiskey thus combines the spicy expression of a rye with a varied aromatic profile.

The aromatic range also includes gentle oak notes, anise, cardamom, vanilla, caramel, cocoa and dark chocolate. The whiskey can be enjoyed neat, over ice or in a cocktail. This bottling has an alcohol content of 45.2% and contains 0.7 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, rye, black pepper, cedar and cassia cinnamon bark mingle with the sweetness of marzipan. Pear, apple and almond add subtle fruity and nutty accents.
• Palate: On the palate, cloves, rye and mint meet molasses, sorghum syrup and honey, accompanied by hints of apple and malt.
• Finish: The long finish retains a sweet spiciness.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Woodford Reserve Distillery lies in Kentucky's horse-breeding country. Bourbon was being produced on its present site as early as 1812, and the site is now a US National Historic Landmark. Its history therefore reaches back considerably further than the modern brand.

In its bourbon production, Woodford Reserve combines spirits from pot stills and column stills. The water comes from the distillery grounds and is naturally filtered through the site's limestone. Its methods also include a long fermentation with a proprietary yeast strain and the use of new, charred white oak barrels made in-house. Toasting and charring follow defined specifications, while maturation takes place in warehouses with controlled heat cycles.

Elizabeth McCall joined the research and development department in 2009 and was appointed Master Distiller in 2023. Chris Morris, whose career in the bourbon industry began in 1976, supports the work as Master Distiller Emeritus.
