Special features: This limited single malt whisky from the Breton distillery Warenghem impresses with its complex cask maturation. It has been matured in three different types of casks: bourbon, Sauternes, and STR casks, all filled in October 2016. STR stands for "Shaved, Toasted and Recharred" and describes a special cask treatment that produces intense aromas of smoke, vanilla, and spices. With an alcohol content of 57.8% and a limited release of only 1,150 bottles, this whisky is a coveted collector's item.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Very seductive with notes of pastry, vanilla, and juicy pear. An elegant smokiness, accompanied by clove, camphor, apricot, and a hint of copper.
- Palate: Sweet and fresh with delicious flavors of peach and crème brûlée. Medicinal and herbal peat with hints of eucalyptus.
- Finish: Very long-lasting with impressions of a fireplace and heather.
Distillery/Bottler: The Warenghem distillery, founded in 1900 in Lannion, Brittany, is known for its Breton single malts under the Armorik brand. It combines traditional Scottish distillation methods with regional authenticity and uses French organic barley. The Yeun Elez series, named after the mystical moorland Yeun Elez, reflects the rugged, legendary landscapes where peat is traditionally cut.
