Special features: This single malt whisky from the renowned Kavalan Distillery in Taiwan matures in specially charred Vinho Barrique wine casks that were previously used for aging red and white wine. After careful preparation, where the casks are scraped and re-toasted, a two-year resting phase outdoors takes place before they are used for whisky maturation. This process gives the Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique its characteristic depth and complexity.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Ripe dark berries like blackberries, black currants, and cherries, accompanied by notes of dark chocolate and a hint of licorice.
- Palate: Bold and fruity-sweet, with flavors of plums, chocolate, mocha, sweet oak, and spices.
- Finish: Long-lasting and multifaceted, with cocoa, licorice, dark fruits, and intense oak spice.
Distillery/Bottler: The Kavalan Distillery, founded in 2005, is located in Yilan County south of Taipei. Due to Taiwan's tropical climate, the whisky matures here faster than in cooler regions, resulting in intense and complex flavors. The distillery has quickly built an international reputation and has been awarded multiple times for its outstanding single malts.
