Special features: The 15th edition of the Kilchoman 100% Islay Edition is presented as a limited release, distilled entirely from barley from its own Rockside Farm. This 9-year-old single malt was matured in 54 different ex-bourbon casks from 2015 and 2016 and bottled at an alcohol content of 50.0%. The combination of the barley varieties Publican and Concerto gives this whisky a special depth and complexity.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Sweet vanilla notes combine with tropical fruits, fresh hay, and toasted oak. A hint of grassiness and salted butter rounds off the bouquet.
- Palate: Milk chocolate and salted caramel unfold, accompanied by fresh peat smoke. Candied citrus fruits, ripe pears, and a touch of white pepper complement the tasting experience.
- Finish: Long-lasting with maritime peat smoke, sweet malt, and a fruity honey note, accompanied by mild oak spice.
Distillery/Bottler: The Kilchoman Distillery, founded in 2005, is the first newly established distillery on the Isle of Islay in 124 years. It follows the philosophy of "Farm Distilling," where all steps from growing the barley to bottling are carried out on-site at the Rockside Farm. This approach allows for the production of an authentic Islay whisky with a unique character.
