Special features: This limited edition of Kilkerran presents a strong peat note, which becomes particularly multifaceted through the combination of 85% ex-bourbon and 15% ex-sherry casks. Chill filtration and coloring additives are omitted to preserve the character of the malt unadulterated.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Sweet, earthy peat smoke reminiscent of marshmallows roasted over a campfire. Maritime notes join in, characterized by salty sea air and nuances of freshly caught fish baskets, typical of Campbeltown.
- Palate: Complex and mature for its age, dominant peat smoke unfolds, underpinned by malty hints of crumbled digestive biscuits. A licorice-like note opens the flavor, while sweet honey sheen provides a slightly sticky texture.
- Finish: The finish is rounded off by fine red tones of fruity notes and a mineral touch.
Distillery/Bottler: The Kilkerran range comes from the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, a region with a rich whisky tradition on the Scottish west coast. Mitchell’s Glengyle Distillery has been revitalizing the history of the nearly forgotten Campbeltown distilling for several years and places great emphasis on traditional manufacturing processes combined with modern innovation.
