Special features: The Mackmyra Svensk Ek is a Swedish single malt whisky that gains a unique character from aging in barrels made of Swedish oak. These barrels come from trees that were originally intended for the shipbuilding of the Swedish Royal Navy. The combination of traditional Swedish oak and local ingredients gives this whisky a distinctive depth and complexity.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Fruity aromas of pear, apricot, and fresh citrus, accompanied by sweet notes of vanilla fudge and honey, as well as spicy hints of ginger and pepper.
- Palate: The taste confirms the nose with pear, citrus, and dried ginger. Sweet tones of caramel, sweet almond, and slightly bready notes combine with spicy oak influences.
- Finish: A long and warming finish, where sweet milk chocolate balances the robust oak influences and the spicy notes of pepper and ginger.
Distillery/Bottler: Mackmyra Svensk Whisky AB was founded in 1999 by eight friends and has since dedicated itself to producing Swedish single malt whisky. The distillery uses local ingredients and innovative aging methods to create unique whiskies. The barrels often age 50 meters underground in the Bodas Mine, which adds extra depth to the flavors.
