North British 2009 - 13 y.o. First Fill Tokaji Cask #2100002/4/5 - Murray McDavid

Special features: This rare single grain whisky from the Lowland region of Scotland was distilled in 2009 and matured for 13 years in bourbon hogsheads. It then received a finish in first-fill Tokaji wine casks, giving it a unique depth and complexity. It was bottled by Murray McDavid, a renowned independent bottler known for its innovative cask maturations. The bottling is limited to 625 bottles and was bottled without chill filtration and without coloring.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Aromas of dark berries such as blackcurrant and blackberry, accompanied by floral notes and delicate herbal undertones.
  • Palate: Elegant-fruity with subtle dryness, spicy nuances, and a gradual decline in fruitiness over time.
  • Finish: Dense, "dry" spice with a soft berry aftertaste that pleasantly rounds off the drinking experience.

Distillery/Bottler: The North British Distillery was founded in 1885 by whisky blenders Andrew Usher, William Sanderson, and John Crabbie in the outskirts of Edinburgh. It is one of the largest producers of grain whisky in Scotland and primarily produces for blends. Murray McDavid is an independent bottler known for its creative cask maturations and collaborations with various distilleries.
