Special features: The Octomore 16.3 is a prime example of the craftsmanship of the Bruichladdich Distillery. With an impressive phenol content of 189.5 ppm, it is one of the most peaty releases in the Octomore series. The barley used comes exclusively from the Octomore Farm in Church Field, Islay, and has been malted to achieve this extraordinary peat level. The maturation took place in a combination of bourbon, Pedro Ximénez (PX), and Sauternes casks, resulting in a complex aroma combination of sweetness, smoke, and maritime notes.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Blooming heather and intense campfire smoke combine with sweet notes of barley sugar and freshly baked bread. A hint of citrus fruits and green apples adds extra freshness.
- Palate: Honey-sweet malt and roasted grains unfold, accompanied by a distinct earthiness. Fruity aromas of orchard and citrus fruits blend with fine smoke and salt tones, as well as hints of heather and coconut.
- Finish: Medium-long and sweet, with lingering notes of barley malt, floral accents, and a gentle smokiness reminiscent of a beach bonfire. Citrus notes and a salty minerality remain present.
