Special Features:

Zuidam Kaneel centres on the slow extraction of Ceylon cinnamon. For the family recipe, the cinnamon is steeped in neutral alcohol for six to seven months before the infusion is balanced with sugar. This period is used to obtain the cinnamon extract, rather than for cask maturation. The liqueur is bottled at 22% alcohol and displays a deep amber colour in the glass.

Its pronounced cinnamon spice and rich, sweet texture make it appealing both neat and over ice. It can also add spice to cocktails, coffee or hot chocolate. The liqueur contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Warm cinnamon spice leads on the nose. Vanilla and further sweet spice notes then emerge, complemented by a subtle herbal nuance. The aroma of warm apple pie rounds out the impression.
• Palate: On the palate, the liqueur opens with sweet cinnamon, followed by delicate vanilla and caramel notes. It is smooth and full-bodied, with a slightly syrupy texture. The warmth of the spice remains present without overpowering the flavour.
• Finish: The long finish leaves a pleasant warmth.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers is an independent family business in Baarle-Nassau in the Netherlands. Fred van Zuidam founded the distillery in 1975 with a small pot still on premises covering around 300 square metres. His wife Helene later shaped the appearance of the products through her bottle designs. Today, the second generation runs the company.

The production and processing of distillates and extracts remain within the family business. Zuidam uses natural raw materials and does not use artificial fragrances, colourings or flavourings. Alongside liqueurs, its range includes genever, gin, rum and Millstone Whisky; for Kaneel, the lengthy cinnamon extraction is the key production step.
