Port wine casks give A.H. Riise XO Port Cask its distinctive wine influence. The blend brings together spirits from the West Indies and Central America matured in old oak casks or former port wine casks. The port wine previously held in these casks adds a pronounced wine note to the blend’s fruitiness.

This spirit combines a velvety mouthfeel with tropical fruit and a dry chocolate note on the finish. It is a limited edition, offered at 45% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle. The presentation includes a dark green gift box with gold-coloured details and a historical street scene.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla, pineapple and banana emerge first. Behind them lie drier red fruit notes and a subtle hint of port wine.
• Palate: The yellow and red fruit notes continue on the palate. Port wine shapes the flavour, accompanied by tobacco and cedarwood.
• Finish: The full-bodied finish lingers, leading into a balanced, dry chocolate note.

Distillery/Bottler:

A.H. Riise takes its name from the Danish pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise, who opened his pharmacy on St. Thomas in 1838. His products included Bay Rum, an alcohol-based personal care product. His work with raw materials from the West Indies also led to rum production.

Today, the brand’s work centres on selecting and blending matured spirits. For the XO Reserve series, the master blenders combine different cask characters to create a consistent house style. The spirits used for Port Cask come from the West Indies and Central America; the Danish company A.H. Riise Spirits is responsible for the bottling.
