Special Features:

Aberlour White Oak shows the distillery’s lighter, fruitier side. Unlike many Aberlour whiskies, which combine spirit matured in bourbon and sherry casks, this single malt matured exclusively in American white oak casks that had previously held bourbon. Distilled in 2013, it was ten years old when bottled in 2023. It was bottled at 40%, without colouring or chill filtration.

Cask maturation brings vanilla and light fruit to the fore: apple and white peach are joined by a citrus accent. Honey and caramel add sweetness, while almond and oak provide a gently spicy counterpoint.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers vanilla and ripe apple alongside white peach and a little honey. Delicate toffee and mild oak round out the aromas.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft and creamy on the palate. Ripe apple and sweet malt meet caramel, almond, vanilla and a touch of oak spice.
• Finish: The medium-length finish stays soft and gently sweet, with lingering vanilla, nutty notes and mild oak spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

James Fleming founded Aberlour Distillery in 1879 in the Speyside village of Aberlour, beside the Lour Burn near its confluence with the River Spey. After a fire in 1898, part of the distillery was rebuilt to plans by distillery architect Charles Doig. Aberlour uses both bourbon and sherry casks for many of its single malts; White Oak’s exclusive maturation in American white oak sets it apart from that common approach.
