Special Features:

American white oak lies at the heart of A’bunadh Alba: Batch 009 was matured exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon casks made from Quercus alba. The release therefore presents a different side of Aberlour’s spirit from the classic A’bunadh, which is shaped by sherry casks.

The whisky was bottled at a cask strength of 59.3%, without chill filtration or added colouring. This numbered release carries no age statement. Its bright, fruity and sweet style combines orchard fruit and citrus with vanilla, honey, almonds and gentle oak spice, while coconut and malt provide further accents.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sweet apples and pears mingle with honey and vanilla on the nose. Icing sugar, fresh citrus notes and light spices add delicate accents.
• Palate: Fresh citrus and baked apple come to the fore on the palate. Ripe pear, almonds, caramel and toffee follow, carried by a creamy texture, while subtle coconut notes and malt add further depth.
• Finish: Citrus fruit, gentle oak spice and a creamy sweetness linger in the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Aberlour Distillery is located in the Speyside village of the same name, where the Lour Burn flows into the River Spey. James Fleming founded the distillery in 1879. It uses water from the nearby Birkenbush springs and barley from the surrounding area to make its whiskies.

Aberlour is particularly known for combining Oloroso sherry casks with American oak. By contrast, A’bunadh Alba focuses entirely on first-fill bourbon casks, clearly revealing the vanilla, orchard-fruit and citrus-driven side of the distillery’s style.
