Special Features:

Made from peated barley, this single malt matured for eight years in a Port Pipe previously used for port wine. The barley was malted in Scotland before Amrut distilled the whisky in India in June 2015. Bengaluru’s warm climate encourages interaction between the whisky and the cask during maturation. In July 2023, 486 bottles were filled from single cask 4677 at a cask strength of 60% ABV. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Smoky, savoury notes sit alongside ripe fruit; with air, toast, spiced bread and dark chocolate emerge. On the palate, peat becomes more prominent than fruit, while the port wine character returns more clearly in the long finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines grilled meat, leather and ash with apricot and mango. With air, toast, spiced bread and dark chocolate emerge.
• Palate: The palate brings sweet notes, cut hay, malt and smoke alongside smoked bacon and ripe fruit. Pepper and piquant heat lead into mineral peat notes; incense appears towards the end.
• Finish: The long, concentrated finish brings curry spice and another wave of peat smoke. Port wine fruit follows, with strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and cherry, before a final floral note of ylang-ylang.

Distillery/Bottler:

Amrut began in Bangalore in 1948 as Amrut Laboratories. It was founded by J.N. Radhakrishna and later developed by the Jagdale family. Amrut Distilleries belongs to the N.R. Jagdale Group and introduced its Indian single malt in Glasgow in 2004. The distillery uses custom-made pot stills in the Bengaluru region, where the warm climate shapes cask maturation. For this peated release, Amrut used barley malted in Scotland and bottled the whisky itself after maturation.
