Blue figs give Amuerte Blue Edition its sweet, fruity focus. This Belgian gin combines classic gin botanicals with Peruvian coca leaves and a distillate made from fermented blue figs. The figs come from Brazil. Their sweetness balances the bitter herbal notes without pushing juniper out of the flavour profile.

Blue Edition is now part of the permanent Amuerte range. The gin has an alcohol content of 43% and comes in a handcrafted, matt dark-blue bottle with intricate gold decoration and genuine 24-carat gold leaf. The bottle was designed by Havi Cruz and Adrian Dominguez. For a long drink, it pairs well with neutral tonic water or ginger beer; a fresh fig cut open complements the garnish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, ripe white-fleshed fruit combines with medicinal herbs and balsamic herbal notes. Citrus and juniper complement the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, fig sweetness and bitter herbal flavours are evenly matched. Their interplay is complex and balanced.
• Finish: The long finish remains warm and sweet, with a soft aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

The idea for Amuerte took shape during a round-the-world trip by one of its co-founders and his wife Eveline. In Colombia, an encounter with the indigenous Wiwa community introduced them to the bitter taste of coca leaves. This inspired the wish to incorporate that flavour into a gin. After reconnecting with his cousin Jeffrey in Belgium, the co-founder drew on the distilling experience of a family that had been making gin for four generations.

The various Amuerte editions combine classic gin botanicals and Peruvian coca leaves with different fruits. Development of the range involves deliberately exploring combinations with unusual fruits. Blue fig joined the range in 2021 and became the defining ingredient of Blue Edition.
