Special features: This limited release marks another milestone in the Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K series. The whisky was distilled in 2000, the year the distillery resumed production after a comprehensive renovation. After 24 years of maturation in former bourbon casks, it received a finish in Amontillado sherry casks, which was a first in the distillery's history. It was bottled at an alcohol content of 47.8% vol., without chill filtration and without coloring.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Intense aromas of creamy toffee and blooming blackcurrants, accompanied by notes of tar soap, antique leather, and almonds. A splash of water enhances nuances of charcoal, graphite, and damp moss.
Palate: Powerful and spicy with deep, intense smoky aromas. Coal tar mingles with wood smoke, while antiseptic lozenges meet campfire embers. In the background, fine notes of toffee, leather, cinnamon, and cloves emerge.
Finish: Long and persistent with menthol, eucalyptus, linseed oil, and charcoal.
Distillery/Bottler: The Ardbeg Distillery, founded in 1815, is located on the southern coast of the Scottish island of Islay. Known for its heavily peated whiskies, Ardbeg has a loyal following and has been awarded "World's Best Single Malt" multiple times.
