Special Features:

This 24-year-old Islay single malt is the second release in Ardbeg’s rare Vintage_Y2K series. The 2000 vintage was distilled using the historic still that was taken out of service in 2001 after 51 years of operation. The whisky matured primarily in bourbon casks. Part of the batch was then finished in Amontillado sherry casks—the first time Ardbeg had used this type of cask for a finish. This official bottling was bottled in 2024 at 47.8%; it is non-chill-filtered and contains no colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is intense, aromatic and spicy. Creamy toffee, blackcurrant blossom and almonds combine with creosote, tar soap and old leather. A little water brings out charcoal, graphite and damp moss, along with a distinct note of soot.
• Palate: The whisky is powerful and spicy on the palate. Powerful woodsmoke and deep smoke meet tar, antiseptic lozenges and campfire embers. The Amontillado sherry casks remain in the background, contributing subtler notes of toffee, leather, cinnamon and clove.
• Finish: The finish is long and lingering, with hints of menthol, eucalyptus, linseed oil and charcoal.

Distillery/Bottler:

The whisky was distilled at the Ardbeg Distillery on Islay’s rocky southern coast. Founded in 1815, the distillery has a turbulent history marked by lengthy interruptions in production. Following its second closure in 1991, The Glenmorangie Company acquired Ardbeg in 1997 and resumed full-time production. The 2000 vintage therefore dates from the early phase of this revival; Ardbeg Ten Years Old was launched and the Ardbeg Committee was founded in that same year. Macdonald & Muir Limited produces the Ardbeg brand’s single malts, is a direct subsidiary of The Glenmorangie Company and belongs to the Moët-Hennessy group.
