Special Features:

This cask strength release combines Lochranza’s fruity style with peat smoke. The malt used is peated to 20 ppm, and the whisky is bottled at 56.2% without chill filtration or added colouring.

The name refers to Machrie Moor in western Arran, where the stone circles date from the Bronze Age. Legend has it that the giant Fingal tethered his dog Bran to a stone there. Citrus freshness, orchard fruit and pastry notes counterbalance the smoke. Earthy peat, sweet smoke and warming spice round out the character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Citrus notes lead on the nose, with peat in the background and a hint of smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, orchard fruit combines with toasted brioche and red berries.
• Finish: The finish is powerful and lingering, with vanilla and smoke persisting.

Distillery/Bottler:

Lochranza Distillery produced this single malt; Isle of Arran Distillers Ltd. is responsible for the brand and the official bottling. The distillery is situated in the north of the Isle of Arran and began production on 29 June 1995. The quality of the local water was a decisive factor in choosing the site.

The water comes from Loch na Davie in the hills behind the distillery. Lochranza’s production methods include fermentation in wooden washbacks and double distillation in copper pot stills. Subsequent maturation in oak casks gives the initially colourless spirit its colour and additional aromas.

Machrie Moor first revealed the peated side of Arran’s otherwise fruit-led style in 2010. Lochranza stopped producing peated spirit in 2017; this bottling comes from that earlier chapter of production. Since 2019, its sister distillery Lagg in the south of the island has been producing peated whisky.
