A six-month finish in Marsala Vergine Riserva Oro casks gives this 15-year-old Aultmore a dry, wine-influenced character. Before that, the whisky matured in refill American oak hogsheads. The Marsala casks add tart fruit and spice to Aultmore’s fresh, grassy and herbal style without overwhelming it with heavy sweetness.

Cooked apple, quince, clove and dark chocolate form the core of its flavour. Delicate malt and oak add structure on the palate, while fruit, wine notes and dry wood spice linger in the finish. The whisky is bottled at 46%, with natural colour and without chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings cooked apple, tart quince and clove. Cinnamon, white grapes and dark chocolate follow, with a light earthy, mineral note.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft and fruity on the palate, with quince, pineapple and raisins. Clove and dark chocolate accompany the fruit, while delicate malt and oak give it structure.
• Finish: The medium-long to long finish brings back apple and raisins. Wine-like Marsala notes, black pepper and dark chocolate shape the aftertaste, while gentle oak tannins leave it dry.

Distillery/Bottler:

Alexander Edward founded Aultmore in Speyside, where the distillery has produced whisky since 1897. Its balanced malt was long sought after by makers of blended Scotch. Today, Aultmore is part of Bacardi Limited’s single malt portfolio. During a site upgrade in 2024, the distillery gained, among other improvements, a system that recovers and reuses steam from the distillation process.
