American Oak undergoes two stages of maturation: the cognac first spends several years in French Limousin oak, followed by at least six months of secondary maturation in new American Quercus alba oak. It is made from the Ugni-Blanc grape variety. The 0.7-litre bottle at 40% alcohol comes in gift packaging.

Its aromatic range includes delicate tropical notes of coconut and pineapple, alongside vanilla, cocoa and nuts. The French oak contributes the vanilla, cocoa and nutty notes; on the palate, the aromatic influence of the American oak combines with the smoothness developed during Limousin oak maturation. The edition was introduced in 2016. American Oak received a gold medal with 91 points at the Bartender Spirits Awards 2023.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Subtle notes of vanilla and apricot emerge on the nose.
• Palate: The cognac is full-bodied and smooth on the palate. Dried apricots, plums and vanilla shape its flavour.
• Finish: Sweet, fruity impressions linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bache-Gabrielsen is a family-run cognac house founded in 1905. The Norwegian Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen and Peter Rustad laid its foundations by purchasing the house of A. Edmond Dupuy in Cognac. Since 2009, Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen has led the company in its fourth generation.

For its cognacs, the trading and maturation house works exclusively with bouilleurs de cru: winegrowers who distil their own produce. The cellar master selects the eaux-de-vie, oversees their cask maturation and creates the blends. The house considers both the choice of oak and the humidity of its cellars, with the aim of achieving a rounded cognac style. In 2015, two storage cellars and a further cellar for blending were built in Louzac-Saint-André near Cognac.
