Special Features:

For Batch #1, Bache-Gabrielsen combines French barley with the cask expertise of a Cognac house. The whisky spent five years maturing in the house’s cellars: first in American oak casks that had held Cognac, then in casks used for Très Vieux Pineau des Charentes. This second maturation phase contributes to its pear and mirabelle plum notes.

The first batch comprises 3,000 bottles at 41% alcohol. The whisky was bottled without chill filtration or added colouring. Its fruity, pastry-like character is accompanied by impressions of fresh hay, blossoms and acacia honey.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pear, mirabelle plum and grape meet pastry dough and vanilla cream. Coconut, caramelised almonds and roasted peanuts add to these impressions; a malty note emerges after some aeration.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft and fruity on the palate: pear liqueur and stewed peaches mingle with quince jam, candied orange and greengage plum. Maple syrup, linden honey, vanilla and apricots with honey add to the sweet impressions.
• Finish: In the medium-length, sweet finish, pear and peach recall fruit poached in sweet wine. Cinnamon and cocoa linger alongside a hint of Timut pepper and a floral impression of mimosa.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Cognac house Bache-Gabrielsen was established in the Charente in 1905 through the collaboration of Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen and Peter Anton Rustad. For its whisky project, launched in 2022, the house sources distillates from Lorraine and the Charente and focuses on maturing and blending them. Cellar master Jean-Philippe Bergier has been with the house since 1991 and oversees its cask work. For this whisky, Bache-Gabrielsen draws on its experience with Cognac and Pineau casks.
