Special Features:

The first-fill Ruby Port hogshead gives this single-cask whisky its dark fruit character, while Ballechin’s pronounced peat smoke remains prominent. The whisky spent all 17 years of its maturation in cask no. 185.

Edradour distilled the whisky on 30 July 2008. Signatory Vintage bottled it on 16 July 2026 for the Cask Strength Collection. The cask yielded 259 bottles at 59.1% alcohol. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring; it is presented in a metal tin.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Blackberries and cherries mingle with pronounced peat smoke. Honey adds a delicate sweetness, and walnuts are also apparent.
• Palate: Powerful smoke and savoury barbecue notes accompany ripe plums. Walnut and oak give the palate a more astringent structure.
• Finish: The long finish brings together dark chocolate, dried apricots, oak spice and oily smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ballechin is the heavily peated single malt made by Edradour Distillery near Pitlochry in the Scottish Highlands. The distillery has produced it since 2003 using heavily peated malt with a peat level of at least 50 ppm. Its name recalls a former distillery in Perthshire that closed in 1927.

Edradour was founded in 1825 as a cooperative of local farmers. Small traditional stills and copper worm tubs remain part of its production methods. Andrew Symington, co-founder of independent bottler Signatory Vintage, acquired the distillery in 2002. Edradour distilled this whisky; Signatory Vintage selected cask no. 185 and bottled the whisky.
