Special Features:

A rum cask finish gives this single malt its Caribbean character. After 14 years in traditional oak whisky casks, the whisky undergoes further maturation in American oak casks previously seasoned with a specially composed blend of West Indian rums. David C. Stewart developed this cask preparation method: only once the casks had absorbed the desired rum influence was the rum replaced with the matured whisky.

The soft, honey-led Balvenie character combines with toffee and fruit. Mango and passion fruit complement the vanilla and oak notes. Caribbean Cask is offered at 43% in a bottle containing 0.7 litres and comes in a cylindrical gift tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals sweet, creamy toffee with fresh fruit notes. Vanilla, ripe tropical fruit and delicate spice complete the aromas.
• Palate: The whisky is rounded and honey-led on the palate. Brown sugar, mango and passion fruit combine with vanilla and a restrained oak note. The fruity character develops further over time.
• Finish: The finish is soft, warming and lingering. Crème brûlée and delicate milk chocolate accompany a subtle raisin note.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Balvenie is located in Scotland’s Speyside region. The distillery grows its own barley and operates traditional floor maltings. Its team also includes coopers who look after the casks and a coppersmith who maintains the stills. Several key whisky-making crafts thus remain rooted at the distillery itself.

Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie oversees maturation. Her predecessor David C. Stewart, who developed the rum cask concept for Caribbean Cask, continues as an honorary ambassador. His carefully devised preparation of the finishing casks illustrates how both the choice of wood and its previous contents help shape an expression at The Balvenie.
