Special features: The Week of Peat is an exciting experiment by the Balvenie distillery, based on an idea from Ian Millar, the Distillery Manager, from 2002. Once a year, an entire week is dedicated to producing exclusively smoky distillate by adding special Speyside peat to the still. This creates a wonderful balance between Balvenie's classic character and a subtle yet present peat note.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Gentle smoke with fine floral notes, along with caramel candies and honey.
- Palate: Velvety and round, characterized by smoky notes, citrus fruits, oak tones, vanilla, and floral honey.
- Finish: Smooth and smoky with a creamy vanilla sweetness that lingers long.
Distillery/Bottler: Balvenie is a traditional Speyside distillery known for its artisanal production methods. Since the 1920s, it has combined classic techniques with innovation, with experiments like The Week of Peat showing that modern interpreted whisky with character is created here.
