Special Features:

Its maturation links Belize and Germany: distilled from molasses, the rum first spends 14 years in former bourbon casks made from American white oak in the tropical climate of its country of origin. It then receives a finish in former Madeira casks in Germany. This second cask stage adds fruity accents to the mature rum.

The Belize XO is lightly sweetened and contains less than 20 grams of sugar per litre. Its dark colour, however, comes exclusively from cask maturation; no colouring is added. The rum is bottled at 43% in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals pronounced notes of ripe tropical fruit, accompanied by toasted and spicy oak.
• Palate: On the palate, exotic fruit combines with toasted wood, sweetish oak notes and chocolate. Subtle roasted notes and cocoa complement the spicy sweetness.
• Finish: The long finish is smooth and full, with lingering fruity and spicy impressions.

Distillery/Bottler:

The rum is distilled at Travellers Liquors in Belize. The company's story began in 1953 with a rum shop opened by Omario Perdomo at the entrance to Belize City. There, he began blending his own rums and selling them under his own brands. In 1989, Travellers acquired the existing distillery in Belmopan and modernised it. The company maintains maturation warehouses in Belmopan and Belize City and also supplies rum to European brands.

Thomas Sontheimer from Laupheim is the person behind T.Sonthi. For the Belize XO, he combines rum from Travellers Liquors with additional maturation in Germany: the Madeira finish is part of his approach to this bottling.
