A Gutedel blend from southern Baden forms the base of Belsazar Dry, complemented by mirabelle plum brandy from the Schladerer distillery and aromatic botanical extracts. Summer fruits, chamomile and a trace of fresh yeast introduce the aromas before bitter notes of gentian, bitter orange, cinchona bark, coriander and wormwood unfold.

Local grape must rounds out the vermouth. Once the ingredients have been combined, it rests in stoneware vessels, allowing the aromas to integrate without taking on additional woody notes. Its dry style suits classic cocktails such as the Martini, but it can also be enjoyed over ice or with tonic.

Belsazar Dry has an alcohol content of 19% and comes in a bottle containing 0.75 litres. Refrigerate after opening and serve at 4 to 6 °C.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Fruity and floral impressions come together on the nose.
• Palate: The palate is fruity and spicy, with bitterness and an intense mint flavour. Mirabelle plums and apricots add to the flavours, alongside chamomile and a hint of fresh yeast.
• Finish: Bitter orange, gentian, coriander, wormwood and cinchona bark emerge in the long finish with its herbal bitterness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Maximilian Wagner and Sebastian Brack founded Belsazar with the idea of bringing Baden wines together with a modern aperitif culture. The brand has its roots in Berlin, while production takes place in southern Baden. The wines come from the Kaiserstuhl and Markgräflerland regions.

Schladerer, a Black Forest distillery whose history dates back to 1844, supplies the fruit brandies. Belsazar vermouths also use macerated botanicals: herbs, spices, flowers and peels release their aromas while steeping in large glass demijohns. Each variant combines its wine base with its own selection of these aromatic ingredients.
