Special Features:

A two-year finish in a Pedro Ximénez sherry barrique from Ximénez-Spínola completes this Benriach’s long maturation. Distilled in 1990, the single malt first spent 31 years in American oak. Murray McDavid bottled the whisky from cask 2201313 in 2024, after a total of 33 years, at 42.1%. This single-cask release is part of the Mission Gold series and comprises 280 bottles. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

This non-smoky malt combines fruit and buttery pastry with sweet spice. The sherry finish adds raisin and nut notes to its character, while dark sherry sweetness gives way to chilli chocolate in the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals pear and baked apple, accompanied by candied nuts.
• Palate: The whisky feels oily and velvety on the palate. Buttery shortbread combines with abundant baking spices.
• Finish: Sweet spice notes and chilli chocolate linger in the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

John Duff founded Benriach in northern Speyside in 1898. After its closure in 1900, its own malting floors remained in operation, supplying the neighbouring Longmorn distillery with malted barley. Benriach did not resume whisky production until 1965. In 1985, the number of stills increased from two to four; the vintage bottled here was distilled in 1990. The distillery has belonged to Brown-Forman since 2016.

Murray McDavid was founded in early 1994 by London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin, together with Gordon Wright of Springbank. Finishing whisky in selected casks, particularly former wine casks, became a focus of the independent bottler’s work. Murray McDavid was for a time owned by Rémy Cointreau alongside Bruichladdich and was later acquired by Aceo Ltd. Today, the facilities of the closed Coleburn Distillery in Speyside serve as its site for storage and bottling.
