Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 40% | Chill filtration: Yes | Colouring: Yes

Special Features:

Black Bottle Original is offered as a blended Scotch bottled at 40% in a 0.7-litre bottle and the “Ingenious Alchemy” gift box. The blend combines a high proportion of malt whiskies—including peated Islay malts and smoky Bunnahabhain Moine—with unpeated malts and grain whisky matured in former bourbon casks.

The cask profile combines medium- and heavily charred casks. Malts from virgin oak—previously unused casks—add notes of vanilla and coconut. Robust oak, floral impressions and sweetly spiced smoke open the profile. Dry wood smoke, sea salt and honey then mingle with caramel and delicate notes of vanilla and coconut. A suggestion of crispy bacon adds a savoury accent, while a salty, spicy campfire character and charred toffee linger in the finish. Overall, the blend is balanced, distinctly smoky, sweet and maritime.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is fresh and floral, with aromas of freshly sawn oak, spice and a hint of smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is silky, mild and fruity. Balanced notes of smoke and peat give way to sweet oak and heather honey.
• Finish: The finish is gentle and elegantly spicy. Nutmeg, pepper and a subtle, lingering smoke remain.

Distillery/Bottler:

The story of Black Bottle began in 1879 with the brothers Charles, David and Gordon Graham from Torphins. They first made a name for themselves as tea blenders in Aberdeen before turning to whisky and developing Black Bottle through experiments with flavours and unconventional methods. Today’s recipe continues to follow Gordon Graham’s original approach and uses a high proportion of malt whiskies.
