Bourbon and Californian red wine casks shape Bladnoch Samsara. This Single Malt brings together whiskies matured in both cask types. Its name means rebirth, recalling a new beginning for this historic Lowland distillery. The whisky belongs to the Classic Collection and carries no age statement.

Its full-bodied character combines juicy plums, sweet vanilla and orange blossom, followed by citrus notes and a malty core. Samsara is bottled at 46.7% without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging. Samsara received a gold medal at the San Francisco Spirits Competition in 2018.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers a pronounced aroma of fruit compote with plums and grapes. Light vanilla notes complement the fruit.
• Palate: On the palate, plums combine with orange blossom and sweet grapes. Light citrus and vanilla notes sit in the background.
• Finish: The long finish leaves gently sweet notes of ripe oranges and plums.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bladnoch stands in Galloway beside the river of the same name and is Scotland's southernmost whisky distillery. In 1817, John and Thomas McClelland obtained a distilling licence for their farm there. The family expanded the business over several generations. Water for whisky production comes from the River Bladnoch, while the distillery sources its malt from British producers.

Australian entrepreneur David Prior acquired Bladnoch in 2015 and commissioned a comprehensive refurbishment of the distillery. Production resumed in 2017 under Master Distiller Ian MacMillan after two years of renovation. Dr Nick Savage, previously at The Macallan, has been Bladnoch's Master Distiller since 2019.
