The Pomerol finish lends this Blair Athol a wine-influenced, dark-fruit character without obscuring its maltiness. Distilled in 2013, the single malt matured for twelve years. Cask #303635 is a hogshead; the whisky received a Pomerol finish and was bottled in 2025 at 57.3%. It appeared in the Crafted in Cask 2025 release and belongs to the Single Cask Collection. The release comprises 263 bottles. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Pomerol lies on the right bank of the Bordeaux region. In this bottling, the wine cask’s influence comes through in notes of blackcurrant, cherry liqueur and damson plum, together with a wine-like texture. Stewed apple and raspberry sit alongside crème brûlée and orange zest; mulled-wine spices, dried cranberry and damp wood emerge towards the end.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, stewed apple, ripe raspberry and plum mingle with baking spices and a hint of rose petals.
• Palate: On the palate, blackcurrant, cherry liqueur and damson plum meet a velvety crème brûlée note. The Pomerol cask adds a wine-like impression, while orange zest provides a fresh contrast.
• Finish: The medium-to-long finish fades with mulled-wine spices, dried cranberries and a gently earthy note of damp wood.

Distillery/Bottler:

Blair Athol Distillery stands south of Pitlochry in the Vale of Athol. Founded in 1798, the distillery has supplied a large share of its malt to Bell’s Blended Scotch since around 1933. Its full-bodied, nutty and malty style provides the foundation for the fruity Pomerol finish in this single-cask bottling.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is an independent, family-owned wine and spirits merchant based on London’s St James’s Street since 1698. It began bottling selected casks of spirits under its own name in the early 19th century. For this Blair Athol, it acts as the independent bottler; the distillery makes the whisky.
