Bombay Sapphire East extends the classic blend of ten botanicals with Thai lemongrass and Vietnamese black peppercorns, bringing the recipe to twelve botanicals. The gin is bottled at 42% in a bottle containing 0.7 litres.

Ivano Tonutti developed East as a personal tribute to the Far East, where he spent considerable time sourcing botanicals as Master of Botanicals. Lemongrass accentuates the bright citrus character, while black pepper adds further spice to this London Dry Gin.

All twelve botanicals come into contact with alcohol vapour during vapour infusion rather than being boiled in the still. The ingredients sit in a basket through which the vapour passes during distillation, picking up their aromas. This adds lemongrass and pepper accents to the familiar juniper-and-citrus core. East works in a gin and tonic as well as in classic gin cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Lemon and lemongrass stand out clearly on the nose. Black pepper heightens the spice and accompanies the juniper.
• Palate: Vibrant citrus notes and lemongrass combine with juniper on the palate. Black pepper shapes the flavour with its tingling heat, while the mouthfeel is silky.
• Finish: Lemongrass and black pepper remain present throughout the long finish. Juniper lingers with a note of lavender.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Bombay Sapphire Distillery is located at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire, in southern England. Designed by Thomas Heatherwick, the distillery brings modern gin production to a historic site. Vapour infusion is central to its production method: rather than being steeped in alcohol, the botanicals release their aromas into the alcohol vapour passing through them.

Bombay Sapphire is part of the Bacardi Limited portfolio. The brand was launched in 1987, while its vapour-infusion method dates back to the Dakin family's work in the early 1830s. Alongside distillation, botanical selection shapes the brand's style. Ivano Tonutti developed the recipe for East; today, Alessandro Garneri, as Master of Botanicals, is responsible for selecting the ten botanicals used in classic Bombay Sapphire.
