LoneWolf Original Juniper Gin is made in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, and has an alcohol content of 40%. BrewDog distils it in small batches in custom-made copper pot stills, using an in-house base vodka.

The recipe comprises 14 botanicals: juniper, Scots pine, fresh grapefruit and lemon peel, coriander seeds, cardamom, angelica root, orris root, Thai lemongrass, pink peppercorn, kaffir lime leaf, mace, almond and lavender flower. Bold juniper provides the backbone, while pine adds resinous freshness and lavender contributes a floral accent.

Lemon and grapefruit create a lively opening, followed by subtler spice notes of coriander, pink peppercorn and mace. Kaffir lime leaf and lemongrass enhance the citrus freshness, while the pine underscores the juniper character.

For a gin and tonic, a light tonic water and a wedge of grapefruit are recommended. Its pronounced juniper character also suits classic and modern cocktails such as a Negroni.

Distillery/Bottler:

BrewDog Distilling Co. produces LoneWolf in Ellon, in the Scottish county of Aberdeenshire. The company mills and mashes the grain itself, ferments the wort and distils it into the base spirit. This keeps the key production stages, from the raw material to the finished gin, within the company.

The base spirit is made using a triple-bulb pot still and distillation columns; the final gin distillation takes place in a smaller 400-litre Arnold Holstein still. LoneWolf was developed through 192 trial distillations.
