This 30-year-old Bruichladdich comes from a single Hogshead and belongs to The Single Malts of Scotland's Director's Special range. Sukhinder Singh personally selects exceptional casks for this range. The whisky from this Hogshead yielded 218 bottles at a cask strength of 48.3%. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. It comes in a premium box.

Floral, herbal and earthy impressions shape the character of this non-smoky Islay Single Malt. Honeyed sweetness, baking notes and lemon and orange oils complete its aromatic range.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, elderflower, nettle, sweet syrup notes and honeysuckle mingle over an earthy undertone. Gingerbread dough and a light touch of anise add further detail.
• Palate: Honey water, tarragon and mint unfold on the palate. Gentle spice and cake batter coat the tongue, while lemon and orange oils balance the sweetness.
• Finish: Spice and elderflower overlap on the long finish and linger on the palate as the sweetness slowly fades.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bruichladdich was built on Islay in 1881 and retains significant parts of its Victorian production equipment, including an open mash tun dating from its founding year. Distillation is still controlled manually: operators monitor the stills and initially keep their records with pencil and paper. Unpeated Single Malt is made under the Bruichladdich name, while Port Charlotte and Octomore represent the distillery's heavily and exceptionally heavily peated whiskies respectively.

Elixir Distillers is responsible for the independent bottlings under The Single Malts of Scotland. The brand's story began in 2002, when Sukhinder Singh first bottled whisky from a single cask. He had previously founded The Whisky Exchange with his brother Rajbir. For Director's Special, Sukhinder personally selects individual exceptional casks. For this edition, the whisky was bottled from a Hogshead after 30 years of maturation; the distillery produced the spirit, while Elixir Distillers handled the cask selection and release.
