The Sherry Cask Edition takes the bright, unpeated house style of The Classic Laddie in a nuttier, darker-fruited direction. Created exclusively for Global Travel Retail, it is made from 100% Scottish barley, including a proportion of biodynamically grown barley.

Bruichladdich does not use a fixed recipe for this edition. For each batch, the distillery combines whiskies from different barley vintages, age groups and initial cask types. The whisky then undergoes a further nine to twelve months of maturation in Oloroso sherry casks from Fernando de Castilla in Jerez. This period refers exclusively to the additional maturation; the minimum age depends on the composition of each batch.

The whisky is matured entirely on Islay and bottled at 50%, without added colouring or chill filtration. Citrus and floral notes remain present alongside dried fruit, toasted almonds, walnuts and marzipan. A warm, sandy and subtly saline nuance adds a maritime accent. The Oloroso maturation therefore complements the distillery’s fresh character with nutty and dark-fruit facets.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with raisins, dried figs, dates, orange peel and honey. Malt, caramel, vanilla and chocolate follow, accompanied by light floral and maritime nuances.
• Palate: On the palate, dried fruit, raisins and orange marmalade combine with toffee, honey and cocoa. Cinnamon, nutmeg and spicy oak add depth, while fresh citrus notes balance the sweetness.
• Finish: The lingering finish brings together cinnamon, orange peel, vanilla and oak, with dried fruit and chocolate returning at the end.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Harvey brothers founded Bruichladdich in 1881 on the shores of Loch Indaal on Islay. After closing in 1994, the distillery was revived in 2001. Today, its whiskies are developed, distilled, matured and bottled on Islay.

Bruichladdich also distils, composes and bottles this edition on Islay. The Oloroso casks used for its additional maturation come from Fernando de Castilla in Jerez. The distillery has belonged to the Rémy Cointreau group since 2012.
