BruXo X brings together two agave varieties in a mezcal from San Dionisio Ocotepec in Oaxaca. Its composition is 80% Espadín and 20% Barril. The two already distilled mezcals are blended together; Maestro Mezcalero Juan Morales García is responsible for this recipe. This Joven mezcal is bottled at 40% alcohol.

The agaves are cooked in an underground conical oven. Fermentation takes place in wooden vessels made from Sabino, a Mexican cypress species, before the mezcal is distilled twice in copper stills. Juan Morales García uses particularly mature Espadín agaves. Water is also part of his production approach: the water used during distillation has the same pH as the water that supplies the agaves as they grow.

Originally developed for cocktails, BruXo X is also suitable for drinking neat. Its combination of citrus, floral notes and gentle honey sweetness pairs well with fresh dishes featuring citrus notes, as well as salty dishes. The mezcal is bottled without added colouring in 0.7-litre bottles.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, citrus and floral aromas mingle with peanut notes and a vegetal impression of jícama. Hints of newspaper, candle wax and lemon peel add to the aromas.
• Palate: The mezcal is soft and mild on the palate. Roasted agave gives way to caramel notes, complemented by gentle honey sweetness, citrus peel and dried chamomile. A gentle minerality accompanies these flavours.
• Finish: The finish is dry and straightforward, with a delicate mineral and spicy character.

Distillery/Bottler:

The story of Bruxo began in 2008 when a group of friends travelled to Oaxaca in search of a special mezcal for a wedding. This led to a brand that brings together different local production traditions: its individual mezcals are made by different Maestros Mezcaleros, each using their own recipes and methods. Bruxo also involves these master makers as partners in the brand, rather than employing them solely as producers.

BruXo X was introduced in 2018. Its Maestro, Juan Morales García, comes from a family that has been making mezcal for four generations. He is the son of Lucio Morales, with whom he also produces Bruxo No. 1. For BruXo X, he works in San Dionisio Ocotepec, combining the local mezcal tradition with his own recipe using Espadín and Barril.
