Bumbu XO combines maturation in American bourbon casks with a finishing period in white oak sherry casks. The blend uses rums distilled and aged in Panama, ranging from ten to eighteen years old. The sherry casks come from Andalusia.

Sweet, roasted and spicy notes shape its character. Toffee and vanilla sit alongside toasted oak, orange peel and peppery spice, with a hint of coffee completing the profile. Bumbu XO is bottled at 40% alcohol and can be enjoyed neat, with an ice cube or in classic rum cocktails.

The heavy, matte-black glass bottle features a metallic X and a silver map of the Caribbean on the back. A large cork stopper seals the bottle. This edition contains 0.7 litres and comes without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, toffee and vanilla mingle with toasted oak. Roasted nuts stand out, accompanied by pronounced coffee notes and a gentle citrus note. A pronounced sherry character adds richness to the aroma.
• Palate: The palate reveals orange peel, peppery spice and a hint of coffee. Pronounced sherry notes, roasted nuts, more pronounced coffee notes, black tea and macerated red berries add further flavours.
• Finish: The finish is smooth and distinctly sweet. Tea is more prominent than coffee, while fruity notes linger. Gentle spice and a hint of incense complete the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The name Bumbu recalls mixtures of rum, herbs and spices prepared by sailors and traders in the Caribbean during the 16th and 17th centuries. This history inspired the brand, although its present-day bottlings are produced in different locations. While Bumbu Original comes from Barbados, Bumbu XO is made in Panama.

The Panamanian distillery dates back to 1890. For Bumbu XO, it uses locally grown sugar cane and spring water; its equipment includes a still dating from 1912. The subsequent cask maturation also takes place in Panama, before selected rums are finished in Spanish sherry casks.
