This ten-year-old Bunnahabhain from Gordon & MacPhail’s Discovery range puts the distillery’s heavily peated side centre stage. The whisky matured in a sherry cask and was bottled at 43%. Creamy vanilla and bright citrus fruit meet maritime notes, smoke and spicy depth.

Lemon, lime and vanilla cream open the profile. Brine, seaweed and peat lead on to pear, liquorice and leather before campfire embers shape the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals vanilla cream, lemon, grass and seaweed, accompanied by brine and peat smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, candied lime, pear and currant combine with milk chocolate, leather and liquorice.
• Finish: The long, smoky finish brings tobacco, wood and campfire embers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bunnahabhain Distillery is located in the remote north-east of Islay and uses traditional methods. Since 1881, it has cultivated a predominantly unpeated house style that is full-bodied, complex and oily. The heavily peated character of this bottling therefore deliberately reveals a different side of the distillery.

Gordon & MacPhail began in Elgin in 1895. The Urquhart family shaped the selection and purchase of spirits, their allocation to casks and their subsequent maturation. As the independent bottler behind this Discovery release, Gordon & MacPhail allocated the cask and allowed the ten-year-old Bunnahabhain to mature in a sherry cask before bottling it at 43%.
