Caribbean rum casks shape this release in the Steamship Collection. The triple-distilled single malt matured in First-Fill Caribbean Rum Casks, combining tropical fruit notes with vanilla, toffee and restrained spice. The previously seasoned casks were filled with Bushmills whiskey in small batches and stored in the distillery's cool warehouses.

Rum Cask Reserve was released in 2018 as the fourth bottling in a range originally developed for travel retail. The Steamship Collection was created to mark the 125th anniversary of the SS Bushmills' maiden voyage in 1890. This release was inspired by a stop on the return journey: in St. Vincent, the ship took on rum for the voyage home. The whiskey is offered at 40% in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals sweet pineapple and mango. Fruity notes with honey and the aroma of fudge add to the bouquet.
• Palate: The whiskey is rich and creamy on the palate. Toffee and light oak notes combine with layered sweetness, tropical fruit and subtle spice.
• Finish: The long, smooth finish reveals oak and vanilla alongside creamy toffee.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Old Bushmills Distillery is located in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The year 1608 shown on its bottles refers to the distilling licence granted for the region at that time; the present distillery was founded in 1784. It was rebuilt after a major fire in 1885.

Bushmills uses only malted barley for its single malts and distils them three times in copper pot stills. Alongside this approach, cask selection plays a central role. When developing Rum Cask Reserve, the then Master Blender Helen Mulholland specifically sought a maturation that would complement the distillery's fruity character with tropical notes.
