Oma Ernas Bratapfel Liqueur combines the flavour of sweet baked apple with almond, cinnamon and caramel. Its recipe comes from the family tradition of Destille Kaltenthaler. The liqueur is handmade in Germany using natural ingredients. It is vegan and bottled at 20% alcohol in a 0.5-litre bottle.

The liqueur can be enjoyed neat or over ice and also lends itself to enhancing desserts. For a baked apple sour, shake it with fresh lemon juice and sugar syrup over ice. The clear glass bottle, with its cream-coloured label and wooden grip on the closure, reveals the liqueur’s golden-yellow colour.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose recalls hot apple juice with cinnamon and roasted almonds. A subtle vanilla note complements the aroma.
• Palate: Sweet baked apple unfolds on the palate, accompanied by cinnamon, almonds and caramel.
• Finish: Fruity sweetness and spice linger on the medium-length finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Destille Kaltenthaler is based in Westhofen in Rheinhessen. Felix Georg Kaltenthaler runs the family business as a third-generation distiller. He discovered his interest in distillation at an early age on his parents’ wine estate and was already developing his own spirits as a teenager.

Alongside its own brands, the distillery develops and produces spirits for other companies. Its work ranges from small quantities to products for grocery retailers. Butterscotch began with a caramel liqueur before expanding to include other flavours such as coffee and baked apple.
