Special Features:

Enigma is an approachable Tasmanian single malt bottled at 40% alcohol. Throughout its maturation, Callington Mill uses freshly emptied first-fill casks that previously held either sherry or port. The sherry casks come from Jerez de la Frontera, while the port casks come from the Douro Valley.

The whisky is bottled at its natural colour and without chill filtration. Its profile combines orange and dried fruit with caramel, marzipan and spices, while dry oak provides structure.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings together flame-charred orange, caramel and nutmeg with dried figs, marzipan and toasted tobacco.
• Palate: Enigma is soft and refined on the palate: raisins, sultanas, tropical fruit and fresh strawberries give way to dry oak, spices, restrained orange and a mild peppery bitterness.
• Finish: The light, nuanced finish returns to flame-charred orange and gentle spices before becoming increasingly woody and dry towards the end.

Distillery/Bottler:

Callington Mill Distillery produces and bottles Enigma in Oatlands, Tasmania. It uses only local, non-GM Tasmanian barley for the whisky. Milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation and maturation also take place in Oatlands.

The site traces its heritage to Callington Mill, built by John Vincent in 1837. Alongside operating the mill, Vincent illegally distilled spirits there for his inns. The modern distillery was developed by its founder, John Ibrahim, after his friendship with Tasmanian whisky pioneer Bill Lark and a trip they took to Scotland in 2016 inspired his enthusiasm for the craft. A turnkey distillery designed specifically for Callington Mill was later created in collaboration with Kolmark.
