Special Features:

Quagmire is a peated release outside Callington Mill's Classic Range. Rather than merely receiving a finish, the single malt spent its entire maturation in a combination of sherry and port casks. These freshly emptied first-fill casks allowed the character of their previous contents to influence the whisky's maturation from the outset.

The whisky combines earthy peat and restrained smoke with dried botanicals, sweet oak, dark fruit and warming spice. Its rich, oily texture carries the sweet cask notes, while smoke and oak shape the long, softly drying finish.

Quagmire is bottled at 46%, with natural colour and without chill filtration. It received a Master award at the World Whisky Masters 2026 and Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2026.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Earthy peat and campfire smoke mingle on the nose with vanilla and butterscotch. Dried botanicals and a touch of sweet oak add further layers to the aroma.
• Palate: Caramel, toffee and honeycomb meet dark fruit, peat and warming spice on the palate. The texture is rich, buttery-soft and oily.
• Finish: The finish is long and softly drying. Peat, smoke and oak persist, leaving chocolate-covered almonds and cigar notes behind.

Distillery/Bottler:

Callington Mill Distillery is located in Oatlands in the Tasmanian Highlands and forms part of the historic Callington Mill site. John Vincent commissioned the windmill in 1837. Since 2021, the restored buildings have combined this industrial heritage with a modern, well-equipped whisky distillery.

Founder John Ibrahim discovered whisky through Dysart House and the former Redlands Distillery based there. His friendship with Tasmanian whisky pioneer Bill Lark and a joint trip to Scottish distilleries in 2016 helped shape his plans. Callington Mill worked with Mark Kolodziej of Kolmark on the technical development of the distillery.

The distillery has operated its own cooperage since 2016, allowing it to manage its casks directly. It also works with cooperages in Spain and Portugal, which supply it with former sherry and port casks, among others. This focus on casks previously used to produce fortified wines also defines Quagmire's maturation.
