Full maturation in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead shapes this single-cask release from the Mystical Malt Creatures series. The whisky was distilled at Caol Ila on 4 June 2014 and bottled from cask 2015633 in November 2025 after eleven years. The release comprises 290 bottles.

At 57.1%, this single malt combines a powerful Islay character with the influence of the PX sherry cask. Dense peat smoke and maritime salinity meet dark dried fruit, cocoa, bitter dark chocolate and spicy sherry sweetness.

The whisky comes in a 0.7-litre bottle and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dense, sweet peat smoke and maritime, salty notes mingle with dark dried fruit and delicate cocoa.
• Palate: The whisky is oily and full-bodied on the palate; peat smoke, bitter dark chocolate and spicy sherry sweetness are balanced by a salty note.
• Finish: The finish is long, ending dry and smoky with cocoa, spices and a lingering salty coastal note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1846, Caol Ila Distillery stands near Port Askaig on the Sound of Islay. The distillery produces both peated and unpeated single malts, and its signature style combines smoke with maritime impressions.

Murray McDavid bottled this Caol Ila as an independent bottler for the Mystical Malt Creatures series. Founded in 1994 by wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin together with Gordon Wright of Springbank, the company became particularly known for maturing Scotch whisky in selected wine casks and other distinctive casks. Murray McDavid is now part of Aceo Limited and operates from the former Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.
