Caol Ila Moch is a heavily smoky Islay single malt with no age statement. This version is offered without gift packaging and bottled at 43%.

Moch is Gaelic for dawn. This bottling was not dictated by requirements concerning age, cask wood, alcoholic strength or finish: it was the first Caol Ila single malt created entirely around its flavour profile.

The body is light and smooth.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, smoke and medicinal, antiseptic hints mingle with the maritime impression of wet, salty sand exposed by the receding tide.
• Palate: Sweet and salty notes meet balancing acidity on the palate, while medicinal nuances and peat smoke shape the flavour profile.
• Finish: The finish is short and dry, with slight bitterness and lingering smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

The official Caol Ila Moch bottling comes from the Caol Ila Distillery on Islay. Founded in 1846, the distillery underwent a comprehensive rebuild in the early 1970s after the previous facility had been dismantled. The six new stills were modelled on the shapes of their predecessors to maintain the established distillery character.

Caol Ila is located in the north-east of the island. The distillery uses barley malted in nearby Port Ellen and spring water that rises through limestone at Loch nam Ban.
