Special Features:

Cask Islay Classic combines bourbon-cask maturation with the bold peat character of an Islay single malt. It belongs to the Casks of Scotland range, for which A.D. Rattray creates small batches from one distillery at a time. Whiskies from up to 20 selected casks are married and reduced to 46% before bottling. The Classic bottling is therefore not a single-cask release.

Alongside the smoke are notes of barley, citrus fruit and burnt toffee. Sweet and salty impressions provide a contrast to the peaty character. Natural differences may occur between batches, while the underlying flavour profile remains consistent.

The whisky has no added colouring and is not chill-filtered. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and is supplied in a gift tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, smoke and the embers of a beach bonfire mingle with the savoury impression of grilled scallops with lemon.
• Palate: On the palate, buttery caramel confectionery and roasted peanuts meet peat notes that are both sweet and salty.
• Finish: Light notes of ash and pipe tobacco linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

A.D. Rattray is an independent Scottish bottler with roots in 19th-century Glasgow. Andrew Dewar Rattray founded the company in 1868 as a merchant of European wines, spirits and foodstuffs. The business also developed expertise in storing and blending malt and grain whiskies, supplying Glasgow's whisky blenders among other customers.

In 1993, Stanley Walker Morrison took over the family-owned business. The launch of the Cask Collection in 2004 brought a stronger focus on selecting individual whisky casks. Since 2011, the company's headquarters and whisky shop have occupied the former village school in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire. While the Cask Collection showcases individual casks, the Casks of Scotland range highlights the regional character of small batches of single malt.
